2008 Program Schedule

The following is a list of programs for 2008. All presentations begin at 6:30pm unless otherwise noted and are free and open to the public, with our business meeting held after the program so guests may leave if they'd like. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, 51 Park Street, Carroll and guests are always welcome!

January 7 - History of the dulcimer and musical selections
February 4 - Columbus Washboard Co. - history and demonstration
March 3 - Silent movie featuring Lon Chaney, Sr. born near Carroll on April 1, 1883
April 7 - Signal Quilts of the Underground Railroad
May 5 - Mary Sherman, mother of Gen. William T. Sherman

June 2 - Trip to Carroll Cemetery to plant flowers on the graves of the Tong Family (founders of Carroll), the Oberle family, and pianist Alice Kindler and to document other old headstones. (*business meeting first tonight, then to cemetery)
June 22- Carroll Heritage Day 2-5pm at Bessie Benson Memorial Park in downtown Carroll. Dedication of the historical marker at 3:30pm, reception following. Free entertainment, everyone welcome!
July 13* - Field trip to Buckeye Lake Museum, boat tour of the lake. The boat charter tour starts at 1:00pm, it is open to members only but each member may bring one guest. Following the hourlong trip around Buckeye Ocean, members will visit the museum. Cost $3 pp. *note: There is no regular meeting this month
August 4 - DAR, SAR, and CAR: What you need to know
September 1 - Annual Labor Day Potluck
October 6 - American Outback: The History of Outhouses in the Wilderness
November 3 - The Ohio-Erie Canal as it was in neighboring Baltimore
December 1 - Dinner and tour of Havensport School #3

General Information

The Carroll Area Historical Society in Carroll, Ohio was founded in 2005 and meets the first Monday of each month (some holidays excluded) at 6:30pm at 51 Park Street, Carroll in Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church.

A free program is presented each month and topics cover a wide range of subjects, from local people and events to history in general and guests are always welcome!

Following the program we break for light refreshments then conduct a short business meeting. Guests are welcome to stay for business as well, if they'd like, or can leave after the program.

Membership dues are $10 per year for individuals, $25 for a family (all people under one roof), $5 for students under age 18, or $50 for a contributing membership. Clubs, businesses, or groups can also join for $100 per year. The membership year runs from March 1-February 28.
