2014 Programs

Jan 6 – no meeting;

March 3 – Silent movie featuring Lon Chaney;
April 7 – “The Carroll Blues – not a song, but a base ball club” with Jim Kimnach of the Columbus Muffins;
May 5 – “How to Date Photographs” with Andrea Brookover of Fairfield Heritage Association;
June 2 – “Blockade Stories - Confederate blockade running ships & tactics” with Jim Hachtel;
July 7 –  No meeting.  Field trip this month;
Aug 4 – “Coal Mining in Southeastern Ohio” with Diane Kinser, author;
Sept 1 – no meeting, holiday;
Oct 6 – “Diggin’ Graves” - see some of the county’s most interesting headstones with Beth Santore;
Nov 3 – “Down and Dirty Political Campaigns” with Ken Culver;
Dec 1 – Christmas dinner, location to be announced, or a potluck.
Guests are always welcome, all programs are free and open to the public!

We now meet the first Monday of the month (except holidays) at the Carroll Community Center (Lions Club Building), 75 Center Street in downtown Carroll.  Guests are always welcome.

2013 Programs

Here are the programs for 2013, all free and open to the public. You do not have to be a member to attend, just have an interest in learning about history or the topic! Programs begin at 6:30pm and generally last 30-60 minutes, depending on the subject. We take a break after the program and guests may leave at that time, or are welcome to stay for the business meeting following the break. We meet at the Community Center, 75 Center Street in downtown Carroll. If you have any questions, please email us.  
Feb. 4 –  “Sorry, Downtown Columbus is Closed” presented by David Cohen; 

March 4 – Silent Movie Night featuring actor Lon Chaney; 
April 1 – The Titanic, presented by Jamie Culver; 
May 6 – Alice Kindler, portrayed by Beth Craft;  
June 3 – Lincoln’s Assassination, presented by John Cooper;  
July 1 – no meeting/ Field Trip date and location TBA;   
August 5 – Presidential Campaigns, presented by Ken Culver;
Sept. 2 – Labor Day, no meeting;
Oct. 7 –  Mail Pouch Barns, presented by Eddie Black;
Nov. 4 – A WWII POW’s Story, presented by Mary Rogers & Stephanie VanHorn;  
Dec. 2 –  Holiday Dinner, location to be decided.

Program Change for Oct. 1 meeting

Sorry, but our speaker had to cancel so we will not have the paranormal investigator but we will have a very interesting program instead when the wife of Gen. William T. Sherman comes for a visit! Learn about the famous Civil War leader and his home life on Monday, Oct. 1 at 6:30pm at the Lions Club Community Center, 75 Center St. in downtown Carroll. All are welcome, program is free!

October 1, 2012 Meeting - NEW LOCATION

Join us next Monday night when we hear from a local paranormal investigator. What better way to kick off the Halloween season?!
We meet October 1 at 6:30pm at a NEW LOCATION - the Lions Club Community Center, 75 Center Street in downtown Carroll. Everyone is welcome for this free program.

Our next meeting is Monday, June 4 at 6:30pm at FBC Fellowship Hall, 51 Park St., Carroll. Guest speaker will be Jim Hachtel telling us about US and Confederate flags in honor of upcoming Flag Day. Everyone is welcome to this free program, which is first on the agenda. After it's over (approximately 45 minutes) we break for refreshments and guests can leave, or stay for the business meeting if you'd like.
Hope you can join us to learn a little more about this interesting history!
